How To Prepare Hair For Herbal Color
Cleanse & Demineralize
Within 24-hrs of your herbal color treatment, it’s important to thoroughly cleanse hair to remove oily product buildup that may block natural dye, and demineralize hair to remove mineral deposits that may cause discoloration of natural dyes.
Add 1-teaspoon of demineralizing powder (MalibuC Hard Water Treatment or Rainwash) to 2 oz of warm water and shake or mix well to activate gel. Let the solution rest for 3-5 minutes to thicken.
While gel is activating, thoroughly wash hair with a cleansing or clarifying shampoo, and rinse well.
Towel dry hair and apply demineralizing gel to all areas of hair to be colored.
Cover demineralizing treatment with shower cap for 5-10 minutes to allow gel to dissolve mineral buildup on hair.
Rinse demineralizing treatment out of hair completely, until hair feels clean and soft.
Do not condition hair prior to herbal color treatment. If you are only getting a root color touchup, it’s okay to use a small amount of conditioner on your length/ends to detangle, just keep conditioner away from the grey areas that will be receiving color.
Timing
The timing for your specific color formula will be shared with you verbally during your appoitment. Most treatment times are 3-5 hours.
Removal Of Herbal Color Treatment
The best way to remove herbal color is to completely saturate hair in a small tub of warm water, or with a heavy stream of running water.
RINSE herbal color out thoroughly before shampooing.
Gently SHAMPOO scalp and hair and rinse well.
Thoroughly CONDITION scalp and hair, leaving conditioner on hair for 5-minutes before final rinse.
What to Expect
The color of your hair immediately after your herbal color treatment will be a little lighter and brighter than you may expect. The color will continue to mature and settle over the next 3-5 days. Blow drying your hair and exposing it to the sun will accelerate the oxidation of the herbal dyes. Please circle back with me in 5-7 after your treatment to let me know what you think of your color and if you would like me to make any changes to your color formula before your next appointment.
Thank you for committing to healthier hair color, your hair and scalp will thank you.
